SMS language and its effects on writing in Pakistan
With the increased use of new technologies such as laptop computers, tablets, and mobile phones, the text language (also known as txt-speak, chat-speak and SMS, has become very popular. But media and scholars have voiced their concern about the  language being overwhelmed by SMS (Short Message Service) language. The first text message was sent in 1992, although it had to be from a PC because it was the following year before Nokia introduced the first SMS-enabled phone. In 1997 the Finnish company produced the 9000 Communicator, the first mobile phone to feature a full keyboard. Short messaging service or Text messaging is supposed as the fast and most reliable means of communication. It has achieved universal reputation and has fascinated billions of subscribers. Text messaging or usually called texting is the procedure of transferring short messages generally160 lettering from a cellular phone. The most recent mobile phones are competent of transferring a lot as 20 pages having 160 lettering of text communication. On December 3, 1992 in the UK, the first SMS messaging was sent via a Vodafone GSM cellular network. There is an increasing concern that the birth of a heavily abbreviated text messaging language could bring about severe problems for the English or Urdu language in the near future. One could argue that such fears are founded upon mere parochialism among the middle class, yet the evidence to suggest that text language is having a detrimental impact upon language is highly compelling. But it is now death to grammar. It is a recognized fact, of course, that text language can be a quick and efficient method of communicating with one another in an informal environment. Abbreviations such as ‘tbh’ instead of ‘to be honest or ‘u’ instead of ‘you’  or "bcz"  instead of "because" are certainly practical ones in the hectic lifestyles of the denizens of the twenty-first century. There simply isn't the time to write messages in full, many will argue, yet it is feared that these lazy spelling forms are gradually penetrating the official English language. It now turning as ineffective learning .Teachers are usually intolerant of texting language. They claim using symbols and/or abbreviated words or sentences in order to save space and time distorts the students' ability to express themselves eloquently through writing, and it distorts their ability to use words appropriately in context. There have been many reports about poor punctuation, bad grammar and inappropriate abbreviations in exams and papers. Students sometimes do not realize they are using chat speak in their academic writing. So there is no learning and self-development. One conflict that has been produced by the surge in mobile phone use is a rift between people who like to talk and people who prefer to text. Sending text messages has become a medium of choice for mobile phone users.
Young people are increasingly prone to texting and shy away from making calls, which  are more direct – but also less permanent forms of communication. Ironically, the speed at which instant messaging or texting takes place means that mistakes and shorthand’s are common: but we often let each other get away with them because we know what they mean.People banging away on their smartphones are fluently using a code separate from the one they use in actual writing, and there is no evidence that texting is ruining composition skills. Worldwide people speak differently from the way they write, and texting — quick, casual and only intended to be read once — is actually a way of talking with your fingers. As this system of texting is also effecting in Pakistani students and other peoples.Today, this is a common scene that most of the young generation, especially students, while talking, walking, eating, reading, even in classroom, in front of teacher, continuously striking the keys of a device that seems to be a part of their hand, called cell phone, the most deliberate Interactive media. That’s all about messaging which is the recent development in the field of communication technology and the favorite of youth .especially students around the globe due to its cheap tariff. This research is concerned with the social and psychological impacts of SMS text massaging or ‘‘texting’’ on the university students of Pakistan which is a wide spreading and revolutionizing communication in today’s world. Why this is happened, because mobile phone. Students feel difficulty in writing English and they often make spelling mistakes due to the SMS using habit that is also directly proportional to the excessive use of the SMS. Manner people converse, as well as people writes, has been influenced by text messaging. they are lacking selfconfidence. They feel shy to express their selfves. There interest in studies has declined.
Here it is important to say that this sms or texing should be used carefully when needed and not for leisure especially for students.
